QR Code Generator
Type a link or text and the code appears as you go. The input is checked for its type, the contrast between the two colours is measured so you do not print an unreadable code, and the result can be copied or saved as PNG or SVG.
The two colours start from this site’s own theme tokens, so they follow light or dark mode. Most cameras read dark modules on a light background best.
Error correction adds redundant codewords, so a scratched or partly covered code still reads. The price is capacity: the same QR version stores fewer characters at H than at L.
Limits measured with this encoder: 2953 bytes at L, 2331 at M, 1663 at Q, 1273 at H. One Latin letter is one byte, one Chinese character is three, and a run of pure digits packs much more.
Encoded on this page: the encoder is fetched once and cached, after which your text never leaves the device and nothing is stored except the settings above.
How to use
- Type or paste the text, and leave Input type on Detect or choose Website, Phone number, Email address or Plain text so it is checked correctly.
- Pick the Error correction level, the Image size and the Quiet zone, and set the module and background colours.
- Check the preview and the status line, which shows the QR version, module count and measured colour contrast.
- Use Copy PNG, Download PNG or Download SVG. Scan the printed result with a phone before you print many copies.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The encoder is a small script that downloads once with the page and is then cached; encoding happens on your device and your text is never uploaded. Only the settings above are remembered.
Which error correction level should I choose?
M is a balanced default. Choose Q or H for printed labels that may get scratched or dirty, and L when you need to fit the most text. Higher levels add redundancy, so the same size code holds fewer characters: about 2953 bytes at L down to 1273 at H, where one Chinese character is three bytes.
Why will it not export my colours?
Phone cameras need enough contrast between dark modules and the background, usually about 3:1 or more. Below that the tool shows a warning, and refuses to export when the two colours are nearly the same. Dark modules on a light background scan most reliably.
